Staying Near KU Medical Center for a Month

Date
November 4, 2026

Staying near KU Medical Center for a month? Your real options, from hotels to patient lodging to furnished homes, and what a long stay should have.

If you need to stay near KU Medical Center for a month, you have three real choices: a hotel near campus, nonprofit lodging if you're here for treatment, or a furnished home rented by the month. For most people staying thirty nights or longer, a furnished home is the one that lets ordinary life keep going.

We're Steven and Nick, and our home in Rosedale sits minutes from the KU Medical Center campus. People land near the hospital for all kinds of reasons: a parent beside a long hospital stay, a new hire waiting on a closing date, a family whose house is being repaired. The questions are almost always the same. Here's how we'd think it through.

What are your options for a month near KU Medical Center?

KU Medical Center and the main campus of The University of Kansas Health System sit along Rainbow Boulevard in Kansas City, Kansas, at 3901 Rainbow Boulevard. Within a short distance, the options fall into three groups.

Hotels. There are hotels close to campus, including one directly beside the hospital's main campus. They're easy to book and fine for a few nights. Over a month, the limits show up quickly: one room, a small refrigerator, and meals that come in a bag.

Patient and family lodging. If you or someone you love is being treated, start with the health system itself. Its hotels and lodging page lists nearby options, and its complimentary concierge service helps patients and families plan their stay. You can reach them weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central, at 844-323-1227, option 4.

Two names come up often. Babe's Place at Friendship Inn, a nonprofit on Rainbow Boulevard, offers temporary lodging for patients receiving care at the health system and their families, with room for up to 18 families. The American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge in Kansas City, Missouri, provides free lodging for cancer patients and their caregivers. Both are worth a call before anything else if they fit your situation.

Furnished homes by the month. This is our corner of it. A mid-term rental, meaning a furnished stay of 30 nights or more, gives you a full kitchen, separate bedrooms, laundry and a door that's yours. It suits families, people here for work, and anyone whose month is likely to stretch.

Why does a month change what you need?

A weekend asks very little of a place. A month asks for routine.

Around the second week, the novelty of somewhere new wears off and the small things start to matter. Where you'll cook a real dinner. Whether there's a quiet room to take a call. Whether you can wash a week of clothes without hunting for quarters. Whether the bed lets you actually sleep.

When someone you love is in the hospital, those small things matter more, not less. A good place to come back to won't change the day, but it can make the evenings softer.

What should a month-long stay near the hospital have?

Before you book anything for thirty nights, we'd ask five questions.

  • Can you cook here? Not a microwave and a mini fridge. A real kitchen, with real pans.
  • Is there room for everyone? If family members are rotating in and out, separate bedrooms keep everyone rested.
  • Can you work? Reliable internet and a place to open a laptop, so the rest of life doesn't stall.
  • Where do you park? Thirty days of searching for a spot adds up. Covered parking is worth asking about.
  • Who answers when something goes wrong? A person you can text, not a portal or a call center.

Ask about laundry, quiet hours and pets too. They sound minor until day nine.

How does Linea fit a month near KU Med?

Linea is one home, and that's the point. It's a three-bedroom, two-bath house in historic Rosedale, across three floors and 1,180 square feet, sleeping up to six. You can see every room on The Space.

For a longer stay, the details are the ones above:

  • The kitchen. A chef's kitchen with LG appliances and Calphalon cookware, with a workspace in the kitchen for laptop days.
  • Rest. Saatva beds in every bedroom, and quiet hours from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., out of respect for the neighborhood.
  • Connection. Google Fiber at one gig, so calls and late-night emails don't stutter.
  • The practical things. On-site laundry, an attached garage, and self check-in. For stays of 30 nights or more, dogs under 40 pounds are welcome.
  • Morning ritual. Oddly Correct coffee and Hugo Tea, from Kansas City makers we love, and Fellow equipment to brew them.
  • Move at your pace. A Peloton studio with the membership included, and a movement room for yoga and stretching.

Monthly stays at Linea have a 30-night minimum. If an employer or agency is arranging your housing, our Corporate & Agency Rates page covers how that works.

When you need a break from the hospital or the inbox, Westport, the Country Club Plaza and the Crossroads are a short drive away. Our Local Guide holds the places we send our own friends.
